Welcome to Cofton Primary School
We aim to create a school that is 'happy and successful', within which your child can flourish and develop to their full potential - socially, emotionally and academically. We have four simple values at Cofton - in order to be 'happy and successful', we must always:
do our best;
be proud of Cofton.
Close links and a strong partnership between home and school are essential, in order to ensure that pupils make the best possible progress, whilst they are here at Cofton. We encourage parents and carers to contact us about any aspect of their child's education they would like to learn more about, or how to support them further at home.
As a school, we will endeavour to keep you informed about your child's progress and communicate ways in which your child can be further supported at home. We will be giving parents/carers online access to their child's individual progress from Autumn 2020 (starting with 'Tapestry' for our Reception pupils).
Our school is set in a semi-rural location on the edge of the city - a haven, where pupils have space to grow and thrive away from the pollution of busy Birmingham roads. We welcome children from a range of pre-school and nursery settings. Induction is carefully planned so that children feel secure before starting to come to school at Cofton. Behaviour is good throughout the school, due to good pupil-teacher relationships. This has been endorsed by OFSTED during our previous two inspections.
By the end of Key Stage Two, children are confident and well prepared for their secondary schools. Most pupils transfer to Turves Green Girls or Boys, Colmers, St Thomas Aquinas and King Edward's Five Ways.
Cofton has a before and after school club, Alphabets, run in conjunction with Longbridge Child Care Strategy. The club provides care from 7.30 am until school starts and will look after children until 6.00 pm. Alphabets also provide holiday clubs. In addition, during term time, Cofton also run a breakfast club on-site in the canteen from 7:45 am. The club is supported by existing members of Cofton staff, who already know our children well. This is to help accommodate the demand for before school provision. This can be booked and paid online via Arbor.
In terms of after school provision this term, Sports clubs will continue to run (in year group or phase bubbles), as will Maths Whizz (phase bubbles). British Sign Language Club (for Years 2 and above) was introduced last year. We hope to be able to run this again when it is safe to do so. We also hope to reinstate Chess club as soon as it is safe to do so. In addition, Cofton staff run an after school club daily until 5 pm. This can be booked and paid online via Arbor.
Outdoor learning is very important to us at Cofton. We are a Forest School, currently running our fifth year of the programme. We are also working hard to attain the next stage of Eco-School status, as well as our silver Rights Respecting School Award with Unicef. This year, we introduce a cross-curricular orienteering course on our extensive grounds - this will further enhance our outdoor provision.
If you would like clarification on any aspect of school life or have a general enquiry, please do not hesitate to contact Mr John Shattock or Miss Anne O'Hanlon in the School Office.
We look forward to a 'happy and successful' 2020-21!
Mrs D. Dudt - Head Teacher
